Starting October 1, 2026, every foreign visitor entering Tanzania will need to hold Inbound Travel Insurance before crossing the border. This is a new government requirement, separate from your visa, and it applies even if you already carry your own travel or medical cover from home.
What the policy costs and covers
The premium is USD 44 per adult, valid for up to 92 days with unlimited entries into the country. Children aged 3 to 17 get a 50 percent discount, infants under 2 travel free, and groups of 10 or more adults qualify for a 10 percent discount. The policy covers emergency medical treatment, hospitalization, medical evacuation, repatriation, and lost baggage.

Which portal you use depends on where you land first.
- Landing in Arusha, at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), or in Dar es Salaam: buy through the National Insurance Corporation at https://inbound.nicinsurance.co.tz/
- Landing in Zanzibar first: buy through the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation at inbound.visitzanzibar.go.tz
If your trip combines a Kilimanjaro climb or Northern Circuit safari with a stay in Zanzibar, you only need to buy one policy. Purchase it for your first point of entry and it covers you for the rest of your time anywhere in Tanzania.
Who is exempt
Citizens and residents of East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries, Tanzanian residents and work or residence permit holders, diplomats, and transit passengers are not required to buy this policy.
