Combining a Kilimanjaro climb with a Zanzibar beach stay is the most popular add-on for our climbers: seven to nine days on the mountain, then three to four nights recovering on the white sand beaches of Zanzibar, all on a single Tanzania visa.
Why Combine Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar
Your body needs rest after summit night, and Zanzibar is a 45 to 90 minute flight from Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha. Instead of flying home exhausted, most climbers spend three or four nights on the beach first, swimming, sleeping, and easing muscles before the long trip home. One flight into Tanzania covers both experiences.
Suggested Itinerary
- Days 1-7: Machame Route climb (6-7 days, our most popular route)
- Day 8: Rest and shower in Moshi or Arusha
- Day 8 or 9: Fly to Zanzibar
- Days 9-12: 3-4 nights beach recovery in Zanzibar (Stone Town, Nungwi, or Paje)
- Fly home from Zanzibar or via Dar es Salaam
Any of our Kilimanjaro routes, Machame, Lemosho, Rongai, Marangu, or Umbwe, can be paired with a Zanzibar stay. Route length and beach nights are adjusted to your schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a separate visa for Zanzibar?
No. Zanzibar is part of Tanzania, so a single Tanzania visa covers both your Kilimanjaro climb and your Zanzibar stay.
How many days should I add for Zanzibar after climbing?
We recommend a minimum of 3 nights to properly rest and enjoy the beach. Four or more nights gives a more relaxed recovery.
Can I combine any Kilimanjaro route with Zanzibar?
Yes. Any of our climbing routes, Machame, Lemosho, Rongai, Marangu, or Umbwe, can be paired with a Zanzibar extension.
